Tom Hanks is a member of the National Space Society, and a supporter of NASA’s manned space program. “Asteroid 12818 Tomhanks”  is named after him. He voiced the inaugural film at the Hayden Planetarium in the American Museum of Natural History. He is on the Board of Governors of a non-profit educational space advocacy group. He was awarded the Douglas S. Morrow Public Outreach Award by the Space Foundation in 2006, an award annually given to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the awareness of space programs. He originally wanted to be an astronaut, but “didn’t have the math”.

Tom is related to former US President Abraham Lincoln. Honest Abe is Incredible Tom’s third cousin, four generations removed, on his mother’s side.
